Looking for legal support!

Join our Legal Volunteer Team

Are you a law student or lawyer with a strong interest in human rights, anti-discrimination law, and trans rights? Would you like to gain hands-on experience by supporting trans people in Switzerland with legal questions?

TGNS’s legal advice team is looking for motivated legal volunteers to join our legal team. Volunteers will support our legal counselling services, contribute to research, and assist in drafting resources or correspondence. You’ll be working with a small team led by our Head of Legal Advice, in a collaborative and supportive environment. We will provide training to all our volunteers!

We especially welcome applications from trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people, as well as BIPOC and those from other underrepresented communities.

Join our Network of Pro Bono Lawyers

TGNS provides legal information and support to trans people across Switzerland. In cases where our individual legal counselling is not sufficient, we aim to refer our community members to legal professionals that are sensitive to the specific needs of trans people.

We are currently building a network of pro bono or low bono lawyers willing to support TGNS and our work with:

  • Advice to TGNS legal team on specific areas of law
  • Legal consultations in particularly complex or urgent individual cases
  • Potential representation in strategic or individual litigation

We work on a wide range of legal issues, including but not limited to:

  • Access to healthcare
  • Discrimination and harassment (i.e. workplace, housing, services)
  • Asylum and migration
  • Family law
  • Name and gender marker changes
  • Criminal law matters

What are we looking for:

  • Fully qualified lawyers (Swiss bar or recognised foreign qualification)
  • Willingness to take on occasional pro bono or reduced-fee cases
  • Respect for TGNS’s values and commitment to trans rights
  • Ideally, previous experience with LGBTQI+ clients or anti-discrimination law

What are we offering:

  • Training for you and/or your staff on trans-affirming legal practice, inclusive language, and key legal challenges faced by trans people in Switzerland
  • Background information and case preparation/legal research by our legal team
  • Visibility (with your consent) as part of our trusted legal network

Interested in joining the network?

Please contact Electra Zacharias, Head of Legal Advice with a few lines about your practice areas, bar admission, and language skills and any experience working with trans clients or LGBTQI+ cases (where applicable)
